Dental Implant – Can It Fix My Smile?
Dental Implant – Can It Fix My Smile?
If you are missing a tooth, or you are worried about wearing removable dentures, you can always use dental implants as a permanent way of improving the stability of your mouth and having a great smile. Dental implants are made from titanium – a metal that will easily fuse with your jawbone and give you the natural looks you would have had with your natural teeth.
Whenever you lose your natural teeth, there are always chances that your jawbone will become with, and this will definitely hamper your ability to chew, and also have an impact in the quality of your smile. If you are having problems with chewing your food, or you are embarrassed by how your face appears every time you smile, then these implants will greatly enhance your appearance and will become a real smile-saver.
How dental implants work
Dental implants are surgically inserted into the jawbone. The natural bone will then grow and fuse together with the implant, thus anchoring it further to provide the strength necessary for natural use of the tooth. The process of inserting the implant involves three steps and they are as follows:
- The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone by a qualified dentist.
- Time is allowed for the bone to grow around the implant to give it a strong anchorage
- Once firmly in place, an artificial tooth or tooth is then placed.
In most of the instances, enough time is necessary to allow for bone integration before the artificial tooth is installed. In very rare cases, the implant may be loaded with the artificial tooth immediately after the surgery. However, the procedure will always involve two visits to the dentist and if more time is needed for the implant to anchor or for more healing, then a temporary replacement may be provided by the dentist as you wait for the final restoration.
